Synopsis

(Important out of game note, the synopsis is only what Seraph is knowledgeable about, there are usually missing details in each run unless the members tell him specifically. Those details may be covered in individual reports).

Jasmine “Frosty” Robinson has hired the group (minus Phoenix at the moment) to escort her to Mogadishu. There she will secure the Sextant of the Gods from a person named Lamar who has stolen it from the Draco Foundation. The group met her at Studio 77, in Renton, a very small and exclusive meet up area. All real food, no AR and impeccable service means it is incredibly expensive. They were told that the DF was hiring Jasmine, who in turn hired the group, to retrieve the item. The agreed upon pay was ¥7,000 per day, ¥1,000 per day in per diem and a bonus of ¥30,000 when the sextant was retrieved. The group was paid five days in advance.

In preperation the group retrieved some information about Mogadishu. The Kid met a gentleman named Fast Eddie who was a mercenary in Africa. He learned some tricks while in Africa and was able to secure a guide through a Somali fixer named Tembria. In addition they determined that weapons would be easier to purchase in Mogadishu then to smuggle to, so the group decided to leave everything except pistols and knives. They also talked with Trixy at the Gun to find out what the effect of a trans-orbital flight would do to a mage and especially to Artie. It was determined that it wouldn’t kill Artie but they need to try and keep her unconcious if they do it. Fortunately the trip to Mogadishu would not require that. The trip to Mogadishu was uneventful. They stopped in Philadelphia, then London, Cairo and finally into Mogadishu airport.

Upon arrival Jasmine took the group to the hotel. It was a cement hotel, three stories tall shaped like a horshoe. The main courtyard was walled off from the street and there were several hired locals with AK-97s that obviously worked for the hotel. The group had four connecting rooms, run down and dingy. There they waited for their guide, who arrived a few hours later. Yhat introduced himself, standing maybe four foot tall and 12 years old. He seemed older in the eyes then  they would have thought. That is until they heard the RPG/gunfire a few blocks down and noticed that while everyone was wary, it seemed to be a common occurence.

The group had Yhat take them to the market. There they found a virtual cornacopia of weapons, vehicles, and low level magical ingredients. In the weapons market Speed and Jack both were salivating over the Panther Cannons, but they satisfied themselves with some disposable small arms. The extreme amount of choices took Speed by surprise, and promises to return to the market in the future were made. A quick visit to the magical market and the group secured Artie some orichalcum, for whatever purpose she uses it for. After that they paid a visit to the vehicle market and found a wide variety of military vehicles in poor condition. However, with proper care the vehicles could be upgraded. After a lot more salivating Speed chose a van instead of some of the military vehicles.

At the end of the day Yhat’s network of informats had found that Lamar was staying with Yusuf Mohammed Siad, a warlord of no little repute. The warlord was hosting some sort of item auction, and it was believed the Sextant would be put on sale there. Jasmine was able to secure an invitation to the auction and the group prepared to go to the little island that Siad had control of.

This is where the session ended…

Review/Recommendation (Seraph): The group reacted well to the situation. We are unsure if the group met a greater free spirit or a horror. Either presents both unique issues and opportunities. We are conducting more research to determine which of those it fits into.

Synopsis

(Important out of game note, the synopsis is only what Seraph is knowledgeable about, there are usually missing details in each run unless the members tell him specifically. Those details may be covered in individual reports).

The Horizon Group and the Draco-Foundation went into a joint research operation in 2074. They purchased John’s Island in the San Juans. There is no external connection to the island, it has never been outfitted with power/water from the mainland and is fairly backwater. The only occupants of the island before H/DF was two families and an old children’s summer camp.

H/DF has imported security onto the island and built a small complex. The only confirmation is there is satellite communcations, but no standard matrix connection. It has been noted that both shamans and mages have conducted magical experiments there and there is at least one rigger as drones have been spotted.

At least 40 people are on-site. It is unknown how many are security, magical or research personnel. There have been no attempts against the island, and no testing of the defenses. This will help the Ghost Daggers as after two years of no moves against the island, the security is bound to be a bit lax.

HG/DF have had several dig sites around the world, the “dirt knives” were found and brought back. We have been unable to determine which sites these came from, which is why all information associated with the dirt knives needs to be retrieved.

The “dirt knives” themselves are believed to be primitive in look. They appear to be some sort of teeth that have been shaved down. It has been confirmed that HG/DF has made these items a “high interest” research object, meaning they believe they have found something important.

The group went out to the island, where they dropped Phoenix off to snipe from the hills. Meanwhile, the rest of the group made their way towards the buildings. While Phoenix waited, she discovered writing similar to “Atlantean” on some rocks near where she was set up. After a few minutes a gentleman dressed in nice clothing from the turn of the 1900’s appeared beside her. Phoenix did not see him arrive.

They talked for a few minutes and he asked Phoenix to bring an item buried in the stones across the wall of the HG/DF facility. Phoenix talked with everyone, all but Artie said it sounded like a good idea. After all, an angry free spirit makes a bad enemy, and a great ally.

Phoenix caught up with the rest of the group and then passed the necklace over. That is when all hell broke loose. The “spirit” swept into the facility and proceeded to kill every living creature but the group in the facility. The Daggers slipped into the facility themselves, raided a library and the forge. They were able to steal a dozen old magical texts and several units of orichalceum. They were also able to secure both daggers, which appeared to be made from mantis spirit claws.

When they left the building they saw blood erupting from other buildings, as if something squeezed the people in those bodies so violently that they exploded like grapes. The group left immediately and returned to Seattle to hand off the items to Seraphim. They also agreed to go back out in two days with Valentina to investigate what happened.

Two days later they returned from the trip. They had found the island flattened and empty. The pool of mana that existed inside the facility was gone and there was no trace of dead bodies. Valentina was concerned about something, but she didn’t comment about it to the group. Seraph explained to the group he would let them know if he found anything specifically. The group went home, 200,000 nuyen richer.

NPC contact update

You may notice occaisionally that I have posted unfinished contacts, or other items. This is because I need the placeholder for those contacts/other things (after the players have already met them) to post run logs and other details. They will be updated and finished when I get a chance. I just didn't want you all wondering why I was posting such little things.

My plan is all contacts will be fleshed out over the course of the campaign. Some will start with less information and as the players interact they will grow. I do plan on the very least getting complete descriptions of them up as soon as possible, but look back to see any additional details that may be added as the group gets to know them.

Review/Recommendation (Seraph): The group adapted incredibly well. They were able to adjust the plan when they realized they could not wait for the ship to go out to see. They talked to me about the “sample” and I did tell them that higher paying jobs would be available soon, if they chose it. See details below.

Synopsis

(Important out of game note, the synopsis is only what Seraph is knowledgeable about, there are usually missing details in each run unless the members tell him specifically. Those details may be covered in individual reports).

The group was called together to rescue a technomancer named Puck from MCT by Netcat. This was a quick on the fly operation as Netcat did not know how long Puck would be in the city. Puck was being held on a modified cargo container ship, which was docked on MCT property.

The group was going to approach the ship in the open ocean and was prepared to become pirates for a day. However, when Artie got back from astral scouting, they determined something was wrong with the ship (an astral backgroung count that was very high and very bad). They determined that the ship could not be allowed to leave port with Puck.

During this time, Badger’s ex-lover Yellow called him, accusing Badger of burning the house down a second time. This time it was with flames. A kerfluffle occurred with the group, it sounds like Artie might have been involved but unsure.

Phelan and Speed secured sizeable missle weapons and bug zappers to use on the ship from Ajax, Phelan’s most resourceful contact. They also armed Speed’s speed boat for use in the operation. Meanwhile Pheonix and the Kid prepared to get on board, destroy the rigger control of the ship and keep Puck calm when they released him. In addition it turned out beneficial that Pheonix has lock picking skills.

The group’s  plan was to divide into two groups. The first group comprised of Phelan, Kid and Pheonix. They would utilize chameleon suites and sneak on board the ship via the land side (through the round storage containers northeast of the ship. While they did that, Artie, Speed and Badger would distract the ship by attacking it from the water on the other side.

The encounter was extremely brief. The speedboat rolled up masked by Badger, to the ship while the first group snuck to the side of the ship on the other side. At that moment evidently Badger had Artie shift into a wyvern… I am not sure when they found out what she was, or how her family will take it, probably take it well. They flew over the ship, blasting it with acid waves and fire. At some point Badger masked himself and Artie to look like an Aztechnology yellow jacket. An actual rather ingenious idea.

Meanwhile Speed opened up on the boat. She unleashed the first Aztechnology striker rocket, taking a large section of the front deck of the ship. This caused security to rush to that portion of the ship and focus on her and the two flying above. This allowed the Kid, Phelan and Pheonix to begin their ascent onto the ship.

At this point the automated rigger defenses opened up, three LMGs and a rocket dispenser began firing, missing the boat and the wyvern by mere feet. Unfortunately halfway up that ship is when Speed unleashed a second rocket. We are not sure if it hit an ammo store, or something else but the resulting explosion lifted the front of the ship almost out of the water. The explosion almost knocked the three people climbing onto the ship. However, remarkably they were able retain their hold and get onto the ship.

At this point the front of the ship was gone, and it began a very long and laborious sinking. Phelan popped some thermo smoke preventing the turrets the ability to continue firing. The three runners firing at the ship kept going while Kid started attaching a bug zapper to the ship that fried out the entire rigger network. This caused all the automated systems to fail, including the pumps, the ship began to sink quickly.

At this point Pheonix secured Puck’s container, unlocked it and was able to get in. She found Puck secured by a strange silverish set of wires to the cargo container. She found that he was still blocked by the wires from the matrix and immediately had the Kid cut him loose. The remainder of the run was very quick and scattered. They rushed Puck off of the ship, half-dazed, and then arrived in the Tacoma docks.

During the trip, they found that the wire still connected to Puck was magical and alive. There was a brief panic as Phelan found a wire crawling up his arm and Speed had one crawling into her pants leg. They determined that these magical creatures were dangerous and secured them in glass containers. What they didn’t expect is that Artie tried to eat some of them, proclaiming them to taste good (evidently Wyverns need to eat magic to grow).

They secured Puck fully, turned him over to Netcat after cleansing him of the wires and returned to me (Seraphim). They told me what they found, I told them I had better paying work if they ever wanted it, dealing with threats like this. In addition I believe Phelan notified the UCAS hunters about this threat as well. That is good initiative for him, it is important to stop any of these threats.

NETCAT

Street Name:  Netcat
Speciality: Technomancer/Fixer
Race: Elf, Female
Birthplace: Seattle
Occupation: Technomancer
Age: 40’s                    Height: 5’10”            Weight: 52 kgs.
Eyes: Varies               Hair: Varies

Adventures involved in:

Netcat is a survivor, a loyal friend, and a fierce enemy. She emerged after Crash 2.0, getting her start with daring Matrix smash-and-grab ops, and she was one of the first runners to openly identify as a technomancer. She is an instinctual hacker, able to feel around systems and find her way into them without necessarily being able to explain how she does what she does. She has made a name for herself on a series of daring runs, and she has proven herself to be the antithesis of the VR hacker who dives into systems from a remote location. She is a hands-on worker, willing to break into secure facilities and wired nodes to get to the data that cannot always be accessed through the wired Matrix. She relishes the B&E part of her work as much as she does the hacking.

Some of her close acquaintances hope that the recent birth of her first child will be a somewhat steadying influence on Netcat. Her passionate nature and occasional desires for vengeance have gotten her into a few tough spots in the past, but she is quick to point out that the same energy helps get her out of those same situations. She generally appears to be quite content with the highwire act that is her life, and she is not very receptive to suggestions for change.

Mitsuhama Computer Technologies

Mitsuhama Computer Technologies or MCT, headquartered in Kyoto, Japan, is the fourth largest corporation in the world, and the second largest Japanese corporation. It deals primarily with computers and robotics, but also possess extensive holdings in heavy industry, multimedia and thaumaturgy. It owes its name to its founder Taiga Mitsuhama, who now holds about 2% of the stock with his son and current CEO of MCT, Toshiro Mitsuhama.

MCT is the largest source of entertainment worldwide, standing completely in front in profit-yielding markets like the simsense industry, the trideo market and the Music Industry. MCT is number two in heavy industry, just behind Saeder-Krupp, and likewise is number two in the Magic Industry, behind Aztechnology.

MCT is connected closely with the Japanese yakuza. The yakuza funded MCT when it was formed, and yakuza members still sit on the board today. MCT provides enough money and money laundering to the yakuza that MCT functions relatively independently without them.

MCT is considered very aggressive with regards to intruders. Their defense concept is known as Zero Zone. There is no penetration and no survival. MCT does not take prisoners, shooting first and asking question later. The magic defense is top class and each important asset is defended with riggers. In addition, they use paranormal critters more often than other corporations.

Adventures involved in:

Kosuke Ito has been a loyal Shiawase sararimen his entire life, although it has not always been easy on him. His collegiate interest in linguistics is what led him to be recruited by Kiyomoto to Shiawase’s MFID right after college (at Tokyo University).

Ito is slight and quiet, and he prefers listening to speaking and observing to direct action. Ito is not a warm person, and his sense of personal duty and honor have always come first in his life, leading to his virtually non-existent relationship with his ex-wife and daughters.

Ito looks up to Ichiro Kiyomoto almost as a father, and the only reason he did not jump ship when Kiyomoto left the corporation is because Kiyomoto needed people to stay behind as his eyes and ears within the MFID. The plan to use Horizon to extract him so that the Neo-Genyosha could later extract him without revealing themselves to Coltrane’s people was Ito’s idea.
